When it comes to Hollywood romances, celebrities change their partners about as often as we change our underwear. And while many of these flings are fleetingly unofficial, many A-list legends have decided to add legal documents into the mix over the years… for better or for worse. Yep, these Hollywood stars must be addicted to love because they have said “I do” so many times they could write a book on it (and many of them have).
And although we’ve heard that the third time is always the charm, these celebrities obviously didn’t get that memo. While all of these famous faces have been married over four times, just wait until you see who has been married seven, eight, and even NINE times over the course of their lives and careers! We don’t know how they do it, but these serial marriage-lovers just can’t stop people from falling in love with them…
Brigitte Nielsen – Married Five Times
Danish actress, model, singer, reality TV legend, and all-around talent queen Brigitte Nielsen may have only made her way into the professional modeling world in the very early ’80s, but she didn’t have to wait too long to bag herself a husband. In 1983 she married Kasper Wilding, but the whirlwind romance came to an end just one year later. Then, after meeting on the set of Rocky IV, she married the one and only Sylvester Stallone!
Although these two were the “it” Hollywood couple of the mid-80s, they very publicly parted ways in 1987 in a rather dramatic divorce. Then, just three years later she entered into a two-year marriage with explorer Sebastian Copeland before tying the knot with Raoul Meyer from 1993 until 2005. Thankfully it seems as though it’s the fifth time lucky for Brigitte, as she has now been married to Mattia Dessì since 2006. Phew, she got there in the end.
Frank Sinatra – Married Four Times
Frank Sinatra may have been known as the ultimate crooner, but he was also known as the ultimate schmoozer. Before Frank took the world by storm with his beautiful voice and his ol’ blue eyes, he married Nancy Barbato in 1939. During their 12-year marriage, they welcomed three children into their lives – but Frank also welcomed many other women into his bed, resulting in their divorce in 1951.
That same year, Frank married A-list actress Ava Gardner in a hugely popular romantic move. And while everyone assumed that they were going to be together forever, their highly publicized fights and altercations meant that their marriage only lasted six years. The singer then got engaged again twice before marrying Mia Farrow from 1966 until 1968. His fourth and final wife came in the form of Barbara Marx, who was with him until he passed away in 1998.
Rita Hayworth – Married Five Times
Legendary pin-up girl of the 1940s Rita Hayworth probably wouldn’t have risen to fame so early in life if it wasn’t for her first husband-turned-manager, Edward Judson. But Judson didn’t exactly say “I do” for the love and affection. Instead, he married Rita when she was just 18 years old to grab his own slice of her fortune. Thankfully, their divorce was finalized in 1942.
A year later, the actress, singer, and model married Orson Welles, and while they seemed like the perfect couple, Welles wanted to be a free man – and so they divorced in 1948. She didn’t wait around, though, as that same year she married Prince Aly Khan, the son of Sultan Mahommed Shah, Aga Khan III. They were married for five years before she later married Dick Haymes from 1953 to 1955 and then James Hill from 1958 to 1961!
Lisa Marie Presley – Married Four Times
Lisa Marie Presley may have inherited her stunning looks and her incredible talent from parents who only tied the knot once, but she obviously didn’t inherit this marriage gene from Elvis and Priscilla Presley. Lisa walked down the aisle for the first time in 1988 when she married musician, Danny Keough. Although they welcomed two children into the world, she obtained a quickie divorce in 1994. Just twenty days later, she married Michael Jackson!
Lisa stood by Michael as his personal life came under fire, but it all became too much for her in January 1996 and she filed for divorce. By the time 2000 came around Presley was engaged to John Oszajca, but she called it quits and married Nicolas Cage in 2002 instead. Unfortunately for her, the actor filed for divorce just three months later. Lisa’s fourth marriage to Michael Lockwood lasted from 2006 until 2016, but the divorce was only finalized in 2021.
Richard Pryor – Married Seven Times
Although we know that humor is the best way to win over your crush, it’s pretty wild that stand-up comedian Richard Pryor was married seven times. But what’s even wilder is the fact that he only married five women! He married Patricia Price from 1960 until 1961, Shelley Bonus from 1967 until 1969, and Deborah McGuire from 1977 until 1978. And after that, the marriage train really got rocking.
During the 1980s Richard began to struggle with substance abuse, and while he married Jennifer Lee in 1981, his fourth wife divorced him just a year later. So, he welcomed wife number five in the form of Flynn Belaine in 1986. They divorced after just two months but then remarried in 1990. Their second divorce in 1991 stuck – but by that point, he’d become accustomed to remarriage! So, he married his fourth wife Jennifer Lee all over again in 2001.
Eddie Fisher – Married Five Times
Eddie Fisher may have been the most popular artist of the 1950s, but he caused shockwaves when he was involved in an illicit Hollywood affair – and with his wife’s best friend, no less! Yes, after the singer and actor married his first wife, Debbie Reynolds, in 1955, she had no idea that he would cheat on her with her bestie, Elizabeth Taylor. The same year of their divorce in 1959, Eddie exchanged vows with the woman he had an affair with.
But even his marriage to the legendary Elizabeth Taylor wasn’t enough to keep him satisfied. After they divorced in 1964 he later married Connie Stevens in 1967 for two years. Coming in as his fourth wife was Terry Richard, who he was married to from 1975 until 1976. And last but not least was Betty Lin, who he was married to from 1993 until his passing in 2001 – by far his longest relationship!
Tony Curtis – Married Six Times
Over the course of his career, Tony Curtis starred in over 100 movies – and he also got hitched six times! In 1951 he married Hollywood starlet Janet Leigh – and even welcomed actresses Jamie Lee Curtis and Kelly Curtis into the world – but they divorced in 1962. Tony was reportedly heartbroken when Janet fell out of love with him, and this seemed to spark his addiction to marriage. In fact, a year later he married his Taras Bulba co-star Christine Kaufmann.
But five years later that marriage also came to an end. Tony didn’t wait around to say “I do” again, though, as he wed Leslie Allen that same year, and they were together until 1982. By the time 1984 came around Tony was getting hitched once again, and he was married to Andrea Savio until 1992. One year later, wife number five made her mark, but he was only married to Lisa Deutsch for a year. His sixth wife was Jill Vandenberg, who he married in 1998.
Muhammad Ali – Married Four Times
Boxing champion Muhammad Ali was all about going for gold, which is probably why he asked his first wife, Sonji Roi, to marry him during their first date! They officially became husband and wife a month later in 1964, but their marriage came to an end in 1966 when Sonji refused to join the Nation of Islam. A year later, Muhammed exchanged vows with his second wife, Belinda Boyd, who was a 17-year-old actress at the time.
Muhammad and Belinda were together for a decade, but the actress called it quits in 1977 when she learned that her husband had been having an affair with Veronica Porsche – who, incidentally, became his third wife just a few weeks after the divorce was finalized. Sadly, his third marriage also ended in heartbreak, and Muhammad and Veronica ended things in 1986. But that same year, he found love with his fourth and final wife, Yolanda Williams.
Clark Gable – Married Five Times
Clark Gable’s acting prowess made him the “The King of Hollywood” but it seems as though his charm also made him the “King of Wooing.” Gable was married five times over the course of his impressive life, and his first wife was Josephine Dillon, who he married in 1924. They divorced after six years, and in 1931 he married Maria Langham, who was a member of high society and a Texan socialite.
This marriage once again ended in divorce, but 13 days after the papers were finalized in 1939, Clark married his third wife, Carole Lombard. Although Clark knew that the third time was the charm, their devotion for each other was cut short when Carole passed away in a tragic accident in 1942. Nine years after her passing, Clark once again tied the knot when he married Sylvia Ashley. Their marriage lasted three years before he married Kay Williams in 1995.
Billy Bob Thornton – Married Six Times
Anyone who knows Billy Bob Thornton will know that this actor and musician doesn’t play by the rules – and that’s probably why he’s been married six times. He married his first wife, Melissa Lee Gatlin, in 1978 and they were together for three years. Six years later he married Toni Lawrence, but this two-year marriage ended in 1988. Actress Cynda Williams was his third wife, but once again the two-year curse hit them, and they divorced in 1992.
In 1993, Billy Bob made Pietra Dawn Cherniak his fifth wife, but this also came to an end in 1997. All was not lost though, as he married the famous actress Angelina Jolie from 2000 to 2002. Their marriage was shrouded in controversy – mostly because they carried vials of each other’s blood around their necks! He noted after this strange marriage that he would never marry again, but he went against his word and married Connie Angland in 2014.
Rex Harrison – Married Six Times
If you love classic English movies, you’ll know the face of Rex Harrison. This actor won Tony Awards for his starring roles, and he also won the award of these womens’ love! His first marriage came in the form of Noel Margery Colette-Thomas in 1934, and they were together for nine years before they parted ways. Then, a year later, he married his second wife and co-star in many movies, Lilli Palmer. They also divorced in 1957.
Rex apparently wasn’t a very patient man, which is why he waited just a few months after his divorce to marry his third wife, Kay Kendall. They were together until Kay’s sad passing in 1959, and he spent three years mourning his late wife before saying “I do” for the fourth time to Rachel Roberts. When that marriage failed, he married Elizabeth Rees-Williams from 1971 until 1975, and then Mercia Tinker – his final wife! Phew, he must have been exhausted.
Lana Turner – Married Eight Times
Lana Turner was the ultimate pin-up girl of classic Hollywood, and she had men lining up at her door to take her hand in marriage. And she certainly wasn’t opposed to this, as she married eight times to seven different men. Her first husband – who lasted just a year – was Artie Shaw. She then married actor and restaurateur Steven Crane for a year, before annulling their marriage. Then, a year after their annulment, she married Crane for the second time.
But it seems as though Steven wasn’t her soulmate, as they divorced again in 1943 for the final time. She then had a string of husbands for the rest of her life, none of them lasting any longer than five years. Her fourth husband was Bob Topping, and then came along Lex Barker, Robert Eaton, and Ronald Pellar. And that’s just a list of her marriages. All of Lana Turner’s boyfriends would require their own Wikipedia page.
Geena Davis – Married Four Times
Everyone knows Geena Davis, right? This legendary actress is still one of the best around, but did you know that she has been married four times? Well, according to Geena, she’s actually only been married three times. She first said “I do” back in 1981 when she married restaurateur Richard Emmolo. They were together for just two years before they separated, and it was three years before they legally parted ways.
The actress then met Jeff Goldblum on the set of Transylvania 6-5000, and he became her second husband from 1987 until 1991. Then, she wed Renny Harlin, but this marriage came to an end when she learned that her assistant had given birth to Renny’s child. By the time 1998 came around, she was dating plastic surgeon Reza Jarrahy, and while it’s been reported that they tied the knot in 2001, Geena has stated that they were never legally married.
William Shatner – Married Four Times
While you may know William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk in the Star Trek franchise, there are many women out there who know him as their ex-husband. He found his first wife in the form of the famous actress Gloria Rand, and they were married from 1956 until 1969 and even welcomed three kids into the world. After this first divorce, he married Marcy Lafferty in 1973 until a second divorce in 1996.
Shatner didn’t take too long to get over the end of a two-decade-long marriage, and he wasted no time in marrying Nerine Kidd Shatner just a year later! Sadly, Shatner lost Nerine in 1999 to accidental drowning, and while he thought he had found the fourth love of his life in 2001 with Elizabeth Martin, their marriage has recently come to an end. In fact, their divorce was finalized in 2020 – so we can now assume he’s on the lookout for wife number five.
Gregg Allman – Married Seven Times
Legendary rockstar Gregg Allman may be known for his role in the Allman Brothers Band, but you can’t remember this rock and roll icon without mentioning the fact that he was addicted to love. He first entered into married life in 1971 when he wed Shelley Key Jefts, but just a year later they were divorced. This curse followed him into his next year-long marriage to Janice Blair from 1973 until 1974. A year later, he became known as “Mr. Cher.”
Yes, Gregg was famously married to Cher from 1975 to 1978, and while the world was devastated by their divorce, he didn’t take too long to move on. By 1979 he was married to Julie Bindas until 1981, and then Danielle Galliano from 1989 until 1994. In 2001 he embarked on his longest marriage of seven years to Stacey Fountain, and then in 2017, he raised eyebrows across the world when he married Shannon Williams, who was 40 years younger than him.
Liza Minnelli – Married Four Times
As the daughter of Judy Garland, it was only a matter of time before Liza Minnelli followed in her mother’s fabulous footsteps – and it seems as though she also inherited the gene of multiple marriages. This legendary actress has been married four times over the course of her life and career, and she married her first husband, Peter Allen, in 1967. The couple were together until 1974, when Liza learned that her husband preferred the company of men.
Just a few months after her divorce, Liza married Jack Haley Jr. and they were together from 1974 until 1979. Once again, Liza didn’t hang about and was married to her third husband Mark Gero while the ink on her divorce papers was still wet. This marriage also came to an end in 1992, and her fourth and final husband came in the form of David Gest. These two were officially husband and wife from 2002 until 2007. She hasn’t been married since.
Martin Scorcese – Married Five Times
Although Martin Scorcese’s epic filmmaking career is greatly inspired by his Catholic roots, he’s certainly broken a few of his own rules with his long list of marriages and divorces. He was in his early 20s when he landed his first wife, Laraine Marie Brennan, in 1965. While the couple was together for a wholesome six years, their wedlock came to an end in 1972. By the time 1976 came around, Martin called Julia Cameron his second wife – but only for a year.
In 1979, Martin said “I do” once again with actress Isabella Rossellini, but this marriage lasted four years before it crumbled beneath them. He then had another four-year marriage to Barbara De Fina before finding his forever soulmate. He’s now been married to Helen Schermerhorn Morris since 1999 and they have found the happily ever after we don’t often see in his crime-filled movies.
Judy Garland – Married Five Times
Like mother, like daughter; and Liza Minnelli was certainly like her mother, Judy Garland, when it came to her relationships. Judy rose to fame as a young girl thanks to her role in The Wizard of Oz, and her whole life was fast-forwarded. So much so that David Rose actually proposed to her when she was 18 years old, and they tied the knot in 1941! This marriage ended in 1944, but by 1945 she had already found herself a new husband in Vincent Minnelli.
Judy and Vincent were together for six years, but she moved on extremely quickly to Sidney Luft in a tumultuous marriage that lasted from 1952 until 1965. Her fourth husband whisked her down the aisle a year after the divorce was finalized, and she became Mrs. Mark Herron. But after this marriage ended after just six months, she moved onto Micky Deans who was her last husband before she tragically passed away.
Elizabeth Taylor – Married Eight Times
Elizabeth Taylor will forever be remembered for her iconic role in classic cinema, and she started her acting career pretty young. She also got married pretty young at age 18 – but not just to any ol’ man. She married the hotel heir Conrad “Nicky” Hilton Jr. in 1950, but this marriage lasted just eight months before she called it quits. She then married Michael Wilding from 1952 until 1957, and then Mike Todd before he sadly passed away in 1958.
In 1959, Elizabeth found herself caught in an affair with Debbie Reynolds’ husband, Eddie Fisher. After the affair broke up the marriage, Eddie became her fourth husband for five years. Then, Elizabeth married Richard Burton from 1964 to 1974, and then again from 1975 to 1976! Her sixth husband was Josh Warner from 1976 to 1982, and then her last and final husband was Larry Fortensky, who lasted fives years in her pretty full heart.
Mickey Rooney – Married Eight Times
Mickey Rooney appeared in over 300 movies over the course of his impressive career, but it’s fair to say that most people remember him for his many marriages! In 1942 he married the one and only Ava Gardner who was young and relatively unknown at the time. A year later, after he was caught cheating on her, their wedlock came to an end. Then, while on military duty in Alabama he married Betty Jane Philips in 1944 and they were together for five years.
He then married Martha Vickers from 1949 to 1951, and then Elaine Mahnken from 1952 to 1958. The actor suffered a terrible loss after marrying his 5th wife Barbara Ann Thomason in 1958, as she was murdered in 1966 by the man she was supposedly having an affair with. After that, he married Barbara’s best friend Marge Lane, and then Carolyn Hockett from 1969 until 1975. By 1978 he had found his life partner in the form of his eighth wife, Jan Chamberlin.
Zsa Zsa Gabor – Married Nine Times
Hungarian-American actress and socialite Zsa Zsa Gabor was in a league of her own. And she also noted that “I love being married.” She took this love to first base in 1935 until 1941 when she married her first husband, Burhan Asaf Belge. She wasn’t single for very long, as just a year later she tied the knot with the one and only Conrad Hilton before getting divorced five years later. Then, her third husband came in the form of George Sanders from 1949 to 1954.
After George came Herbert Hunter, who was her husband from 1962 until 1966, and then Joshua S. Cosden Jr. from 1966 to 1967. Jack Ryan was next, before Michael O’Hara and Felipe de Alba also got her to walk down the aisle. Her last and final husband came in the form of Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt, who she was married to from 1986 until 2016. Yes, if you’ve managed to keep up you will have counted that she was married a whopping nine times!
Joan Collins – Married Five Times
Joan Collins has been hugely successful in terms of her professional career, and while some would say that she has also been successful in winning over men – others would say that she just can’t make her mind up! That’s because she has been married five times, starting with her first husband Maxwell Reed who she married from 1952 until 1956. In 1963 she then moved onto Anthony Newley who was her lawfully wedded husband until 1971.
By the time 1972 had come around she had another ring on her finger from her third husband, businessman Ronald S. Kass – but once again that came to an end when they divorced in 1983. Her fourth husband was Peter Holm for two years from 185 until 1987, and then in 2002, she found her forever husband. At the time of writing, Joan is still married to Percy Gibson, who prefers to stay out of the limelight.
Robert Evans – Married Seven Times
The late filmmaker and producer Robert Evans is known for bringing the likes of Rosemary’s Baby, Love Story, The Godfather, and Chinatown onto our screens – but who could forget that he was also married a whopping seven times? First of all, he married Sharon Hugueny in 1961 for a year, before moving on to Camilla Sparv from 1964 until 1967. He was then involved in a high-profile marriage with his third wife, actress, and activist Ali McGraw.
This “it” couple was married for four years, but Robert seemed to love moving onto the next best thing. So, he married Phyllis George from 1977 until 1978, Catherine Oxenberg for just nine days in 1998, Leslie Ann Woodward from 2002 until 2004, and then his seventh wife Victoria White O’Gara from 2005 until 2006. Up to his passing in 2019, he decided to stay unmarried and single – which was a change for him.
Larry King – Married Eight Times
Everyone knows that Larry King will forever go down in history as a TV hosting legend, but did you know he said “I do” on eight occasions? But only to seven women, though. Before he broke into television, Larry married his childhood sweetheart Freda Miller for a year from 1952 until 1953. In 1961, he exchanged his vows with his second wife, Annette Kay – before divorcing her a few months later and marrying Alene Akins that same year.
King and Akins were together for just two years before he married Mickey Sutphin for seven, but then in a plot twist that would have had a live television gasping, in 1967 he remarried Alene Akins for the second time! The second marriage ended as badly as the first, and then Sharon Lepore, Julie Alexander, and Shawn Southwick became his fifth, sixth, and seventh wives. He separated from Southwick in 2019, but the divorce was not finalized before he passed.
Kenny Rogers – Married Five Times
The late and great Kenny Rogers was one of the most famous singers of all time, and so it should probably come as no surprise to learn that he was a real hit with the ladies! He bagged his first wife when he was just 20 years old, and married Janice Gordon in 1958. While their wedlock only lasted two years, it didn’t take long for Kenny to find a second wife. He married a woman by the name of Jean that same year and was her husband for three years.
After his second divorce, he found love with Margo Anderson and made her wife number three in 1964. And while they were together for 12 years, their love song came to an abrupt end and he then married Marianne Gordon in 1977 and stuck with her until 1993. But by far his longest marriage was to wife number four, Wanda Miller, who he was married to from 1997 until his sad passing in 2020. We guess he found the love of his life, after all.
Christie Brinkley – Married Four Times
As the former face of CoverGirl and Sports Illustrated, there’s no doubt about the fact that Christie Brinkley is kind of a big deal. And considering models are known for being beautiful in every way, we don’t think this lady had to work too hard to find her four hubbies. She first walked down the aisle to marry French artist Jean-François Allaux, who was her husband from 1973 until 1981. Then, she fell head over heels in love with the singer Billy Joel!
Christie and Billy were married for nine years, and while they divorced in 1994 they’re still good friends today. And he watched as she married her third husband, real estate developer Richard Taubman. He actually proposed while Christie and Billy Joel were still technically married, but then they ended things in 1995. Just a year later, she married her fourth and final husband, architect Peter Cook. They’re no longer together, as they divorced in 2008.
Barbara Walters – Married Four Times
When it comes to legendary journalists, Barbara Walters always comes top of the list. This lady has seen and done everything during her high-profile career, and it seems as though she’s also been able to win over the men in her life as she’s been married four times. But only to three different men. However, her first marriage – to Robert Henry Katz in 1954 – was over before it even really begun, and they divorced in 1955.
Her second marriage was a bit more fruitful when she was coupled up to Lee Guber from 1963 until 1976. But it’s her third husband that really got people talking. In 1981 she first married Merv Adelson, and while they divorced three years later, they just couldn’t stay away from each other. They got married again from 1986 until 1992. Since then, she’s been a single pringle!
Pamela Anderson – Married Six Times
Playboy model, actress, animal activist, and all-around pop culture icon Pamela Anderson certainly has an interesting life under her belt – and did you know she’s been married six times? Her first marriage was perhaps her most iconic, as she married rockstar Tommy Lee in 1995 just 96 hours after they first met. Miraculously, their whirlwind marriage lasted three years before they divorced in 1998. In 2006, she then married Kid Rock.
But they lasted just a few months before they signed the divorce papers and the model moved on to Rick Salomon, who she married later that year. While they annulled their marriage just a short while after they tied the knot, they got back together and married for the second time from 2014 until 2015. And, would you believe it, Pamela later got married to two different men in 2020. First up came Jon Peters, and now she’s still married to Dan Hayhurst.
Richard Burton – Married Five Times
Legendary actor Richard Burton has already made his impact on this list thanks to his two marriages to Elizabeth Taylor, but before Elizabeth came his first wife Sybil Williams. He was married to her from 1949 until 1963 and they even welcomed two children together. But it seems as though the pull of Cleopatra icon Elizabeth Taylor was too much for their marriage to handle. And just one year after his divorce from Sybil in 1964, he married Taylor.
Burton and Taylor’s tumultuous marriage was highly publicized, and they first divorced in 1974 before briefly getting hitched again from 1975 until 1976. After that, his life turned down a notch and he had a much more civilized marriage to model Suzy Miller from 1976 until 1982. His fifth and final wife came in the form of Sally Hay, and he was married to the makeup artist from 1983 until he sadly passed away in 1984.
