Amanda Bynes is Back & She Finally Let Us Know Why She Was Gone for So Long

Amanda Bynes is finally back from hiding out. After the movie Easy A came out, it seemed like the comedic actress fell off the face of the planet. However, Bynes recently gave an interview with Paper Magazine and explained why she retired from acting and hid from the limelight.

She’s Back

Amanda Bynes appeared on the cover of Paper Magazine. The world is so happy to see her face again but very curious as to where she was all this time. This is Amanda’s first cover in years and she looks stunning in it.

It All Started With “She’s the Man.”

Bynes recently gave a bunch of different interviews and used the opportunity to talk about what she was going through and why she went into “hiding.” The comedic actress started out by saying that drugs were the root of all her problems. Bynes explained that it all started after the movie “She’s the Man,” came out. Bynes played a girl who disguised herself as a guy to take her brother’s place on a soccer team at an all-boys private school.

Amanda explained that she couldn’t stand the way she looked when she was dressed as a boy. “When the movie came out and I saw it, I went into a deep depression for four to six months because I didn’t like how I looked when I was a boy,” she revealed. “I’ve never told anyone that,” she said. The pressure was huge. She hated the way she looked and, at the same time, knew that the whole world saw this performance. From that point on, Amanda’s anxiety increased and the image she had of herself worsened.

What Drove Her to Take Drugs

The “ALL-That” star admitted to using drugs to keep her thin and feeling confident. It was what she did to “cope” but the habit got out of control. Amanda continued to act after the movie “She’s the Man,” came out.

Bynes landed a role on the film “Easy A,” starring Emma Stone. With her self-consciousness continued to grow, it became harder to see herself on camera. After she watched Easy A, the actress felt she could not handle it anymore and announced that she was done with acting altogether.

Dealing With Tough Rumors

Amanda’s behavior on social media, while she was using drugs, had people diagnosing her with all sorts of mental illnesses.

Amanda recalls reading comments saying that she was schizophrenic or bipolar. However, now that she’s showing her face again, she took the opportunity to clear the air. Amanda clarified that all her behavior during that time was drug induced.

The Good News

Amanda says that she’s been sober for about four years straight now and that she’s feeling great. She also made a point to say that she’ll never go back to the days when she experimented with drugs. “Those days of experimenting [with substances] are long over. I’m not sad about it and I don’t miss it because I really feel ashamed of how those substances made me act. When I was off of them, I was completely back to normal and immediately realized what I had done — it was like an alien had literally invaded my body. That is such a strange feeling,” she told Paper Magazine.

What Amanda is Up To

Bynes worked hard to get clean and stay clean. Now she’s studying at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising out in L.A. One of her instructors says that Amanda is “killing it there.” Amanda said she’d like to get back into acting but only if she finds a project that interests her.

Bynes says she’s pretty optimistic about the future, “I just feel like its only up from here,” Amanda told Paper Magazine.

Fun Fact:

Bynes also wanted to add that she fought for Channing Tatum to be in the film “She’s the Man.” Paper Magazine tweeted this quote from their interview: “I totally fought for @channingtatum [to get cast in] that movie because he wasn’t famous yet… I was like, ‘This guy’s a star — every girl will love him!” If that’s true, we can all thank her for that!
