Can You Recognize These Celebrities Dressed up as Their Famous Friends?

Tue Jan 25 2022

When it’s Halloween time, or we’re just going to a costume party, we regular folk tend to dress up as our favorite celebrities. Well, celebrities are no different, they dress up as other A-list stars! Celebs love to imitate one another and impersonate their famous friends. Can you recognize who’s in these star-studded costumes?

So what happens when the celebrity you’ve dressed up as sees your costume? That’s exactly what these famous, costumed, people found out. See which stars consider imitation to be the best form of flattery, and which ones were offended by someone else stealing their look.

Paris Hilton as Miley Cyrus

Paris Hilton went as her famous friend, Miley Cyrus for Halloween in 2013. Of course, there are many versions of Miley one can dress up as, but Paris chose “controversial Miley” and wore the singer’s outfit from the VMA awards. Let’s just hope that Robin Thicke wasn’t around…

While Miley never directly commented on Paris’s outfit, the two did attend a party together that weekend, so clearly she was okay with someone else “just being Miley.” Paris posted the photo on her Instagram with the caption, “Like my Miley costume?” which people inexplicably took as an invitation to compare the two stars’ bodies. Because what’s a fun costume without pitting female friends against one another?

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

Neil Patrick Harris and his husband, David Burtka, dressed as the Olsen twins in 2019. The couple was extremely committed to their costumes, as they were completely unrecognizable. Not only did they look like the sisters but they learned to pose like them, as well.

The twins have famously disappeared from the limelight, after a childhood of being a brand rather than kids, so it’s unlikely that they’ll resurface just to comment on the costume. That being said, we think that the costume is “legen… wait for it… dary!”

Mindy Kaling as Jared Leto

Many people believe that Mindy Kaling won the Met Gala Challenge. When the annual Met Gala was canceled, due to the pandemic, Billy Porter teamed with Vogue to challenge people to recreate iconic Met Gala looks. Mindy dressed as Jared Leto from the 2019 gala, headless-ness and all.

Mindy posted a photo of her costume on Instagram, with the caption, “Recreating one of my favorite Met Gala looks ever with the help of a tarp, some Christmas lights, and packing tape.” Although Jared is yet to respond, the internet has all agreed that Mindy dominated the online challenge.

Rita Ora as Post Malone

Rita Ora dressed up as Post Malone for Halloween in 2019. Her getup was so convincing that The Hollywood Reporter accidentally included a photo of Rita in costume, thinking that it was actually Post Malone! One fan aptly commented, “If I were Post Malone, I’d just let Rita Ora be me in all music videos.” It would certainly save the rapper some time.

Clearly, there isn’t any bad blood between the musicians due to the costume. Rita posted a photo of her Post Malone impersonation with the caption, “I LOVE YOU BRO.” Furthermore, the two of them recently released a song together on Post Malone’s new album.

Nina Dobrev as Billie Eilish

Halloween of 2019 was the year that everyone dressed up as Billie Eilish, including her celebrity peers. When interviewers predicted that Billie would be a popular costume, the naive singer responded, “You think?” Apparently, the prediction was correct as Nina Dobrev, Anne-Marie, Jameela Jamil, and countless regular folk all went as various versions of Billie that Halloween.

Nina posted a photo of her costume on Instagram along with a quote of Billie’s lyrics, “Duh, I’m the bad guy.” Billie was honored by all of her famous admirers and let fans know it by posting, “This s**t is tripping me out.” she even specified Nina’s costume with the comment, “THIS ONE TOOOOOO, LMAO.” It’s safe to say that the young singer was flattered!

Jenna Ortega and Asher Angel as Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson

Jenna Ortega (you know her as Ellie in season 2 of You) and her boyfriend Asher Angel (you’ve seen him as Billy in Shazam!) dressed up as once-engaged couple Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson for Halloween. Unfortunately, the costume was ill-timed as Ariana and Pete broke up just a few weeks before…

Jenna and Asher explained that they didn’t mean any offense by the timing of their costume, and they had planned it long before Ariana and Pete broke off their engagement. The former couple chose not to comment on the youngsters’ costume but we can’t imagine that they were very happy about it.

Kim Kardashian and Jonathan Chebon as Cher and Sonny

Kim Kardashian and her longtime friend, Jonathan Chebon, dressed up as former couple Cher and Sonny. It’s clear that the costume came from a place of admiration, as Kim has often complimented Cher to the press. Kim has said about the star, “She’s always had the sickest style, I’m obsessed with her. To think that she was wearing these sheer dresses in the ’70s and what people must have thought back then.” We all know that Kim loves a trailblazer!

Clearly, Cher was flattered by the reality star’s portrayal of her. She posted on Twitter, “Woke up to see you are me 4 Halloween. You look BEAUTIFUL Little Armenian Sister. Dream Of India is perfect 4 u.” Imitation is truly the best form of flattery, folks!

Kylie Jenner as Christina Aguilera

Kylie Jenner dressed up as Christina Aguilera from her Dirrty days, for Halloween in 2016. Even all these years later, that costume is still one of Kylie’s favorites. She’s said, “This was probably one of my first looks that I really got custom and was so excited to wear.” But what did Christina think?

Christina loved Kylie’s costume so much that she re-posted the reality star’s photo to her own social media, captioned, “YAASSSSS… Killin it. Yes to dirrty 2016!! Get it girrrl!!!” Not only that but the pop star also invited Kylie to her birthday party, on the condition that she show up in costume, which Kylie said was “iconic.”

Ciara and Russell Wilson as Beyonce and Jay-Z

Beyonce and Jay-Z rented out the Louvre for a photoshoot because they can, so Ciara and Russell Wilson decided to do a copycat photoshoot. Of course, they couldn’t get a picture in front of the Mona Lisa but they still managed to score a pretty epic background photo…

Russell explained, “We just wanted to have a little fun and pay a little respect to Jay-Z and Beyonce and then we also had the Obamas in the background so shoutout to them, too. It was a good time. Ciara killed it. I did my best. It was pretty cool.” When asked what the Carters thought about the costume, Russell said, “They loved it. They were cracking up and just told us it was the perfect outfit, the perfect look.” The Beyhive can rest easy tonight, their queen approves.

Jessica Biel as Justin Timberlake

Jessica Biel dressed up as her own husband, Justin Timberlake, for Halloween. Of course, she didn’t dress as modern-day Justin, instead, she opted for ’90s Justin from *NSYNC. You know, back when he got away with all of his crappy, sexist, behavior. Yeah, that version of Justin.

Clearly, Justin was fine with his wife’s loving imitation of him, as he joined her dressed up as a microphone. Let’s all just appreciate the irony for a moment. Justin, known for silencing women, dressed up as a microphone for a woman to speak through. Let’s hope he learned something here.

Lil Nas X as Nicki Minaj

Lil Nas X has always been a huge fan of Nicki Minaj, although he used to hide that fact in order to mask his sexuality. With that knowledge, it must have been a huge milestone for the rapper to be able to dress up as his idol for Halloween, which is exactly what he did. But not everyone was happy about it…

This man is having a great time in a way that harms exactly no one. Cue: the homophobes. Suddenly, everyone had something to say, including 50 Cent and Dave East. Lil Nas responded as perfectly as he always does, saying, “It’s Nov 2nd and grown men are waking up to have group discussions about a costume i wore on Halloween.” Nicki, herself, has not commented, due to no longer being in the spotlight but we like to think that she approved of the costume.

Stormi Webster as Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner dressed her one-year-old daughter, Stormi Webster, as… Kylie. Stormi’s Halloween costume consisted of an exact replica of Kylie’s Met Gala outfit. Kylie posted an image of her daughter on social media and captioned it, “My baby!!!!!!!! i can’t handle this!!!!”

Donatella Versace created Kylie’s Met Gala dress and, clearly, approved of the miniature version. Versace commented, “so cuuuute!” on the photo of Stormi. No one can ever question the self-esteem of the Kardashian/Jenner clan. We can all learn something about confidence from them!

Kate Moss as Cara Delevingne

The modeling world often refers to Cara Delevingne as “the new Kate Moss,” so was Kate’s costume an offensive jab at Cara? Or was she jokingly passing on the torch to the young supermodel? One would think that her Cara costume was in loving fun, except for one small detail…

Kate’s costume consisted of some white powder on her nose, in an obvious jab about the rumors of Cara’s substance abuse. While the two models are close friends, and Cara is known to have a unique sense of humor, many fans still feel that Kate’s mocking has gone too far.

Winnie Harlow as RuPaul

Winnie Harlow’s RuPaul costume was so beloved that it actually became a makeup campaign! RuPaul originally wore this sexy getup for MAC’s Viva Glam ad, so when Winnie was chosen to be the next MAC spokesmodel, they had her recreate her Halloween look.

For those who missed the other fun celebrity connection, we’ll spell it out: RuPaul routinely imitates Tyra Banks. Tyra’s show, America’s Next Top Model, is where Winnie got her start in Hollywood. Now, Winnie has dressed up as RuPaul, bringing the celebrity imitations full circle. It’s all very meta, isn’t it?

Kourtney Kardashian as Ariana Grande

Kourtney Kardashian dressed up as Ariana Grande for Halloween, in 2018. The reality star captioned a photo of her costume with a quote of Ariana’s lyrics, “God is a woman.” Ariana seemed to love the tribute, as she commented on Kourtney’s photo with several hearts.

It’s not surprising that Kourtney dressed up as the pop star, or that Ariana recognized the costume for the compliment it was, as the Kardashian/Jenner clan have been close with Ariana for years. Kourtney and her sisters routinely praise Ariana’s music and quote her lyrics, so it makes sense that she wanted to be the pop star for a few hours. Maybe it gave her a hint of what it’s like to be famous for talent?

Trevor Noah as The Weeknd

Trevor Noah spent Halloween dressed up as The Weeknd’s imaginary alter ego, The Weekday. Fans loved it so much, that Trevor instructed The Weeknd to “come get your fans” on Twitter. One person aptly wrote, “LOL AMAZING” while another simply said, “Dead” followed by crying-laughing emojis.

While The Weeknd has stayed mum about the costume, his fans were completely convinced by it. Trevor said that several people stopped him on the street that Halloween, asking for photos with The Weeknd. Trevor explained that he wasn’t actually the singer but no one believed him. The comedian hilariously asked why they think The Weeknd would dress up as himself for Halloween? He has a point.

Margot Robbie as Geri Halliwell

In 2020, Margot Robbie dressed up as Geri Halliwell, aka Ginger Spice. It must have been nice for the actress to dress as another celebrity, as she herself has inspired one of the most over-used Halloween costumes of all time: Harley Quinn. Margot even admitted that her own friends dress up as her version of Harley.

While Geri herself has not commented on Margot’s costume, she should be flattered as Margot rarely dresses up as women on Halloween. The actress has said, “Every Halloween I dress up as a guy character because they are always the most fun.” Well, their clothing is certainly more comfortable. We bet she’d give anything for that minidress to have some pockets!

Lisa Rinna as Jennifer Lopez

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Lisa Rinna, paid tribute to Jennifer Lopez by dressing up as the singer for Halloween. Lisa posted a photo of her costume on Instagram and, of course, quoted JLo’s lyrics in the caption, “Jenny from the block. Halloween 2019.” So did Jenny From the Block see it?

Well, her then-husband did, and he made sure to show it to the pop icon. Jennifer explained, “I saw that on Instagram… Actually, Alex sent that to me. He’s like, ‘LOOK!'” JLo reacted by saying about Lisa, “She looked awesome. It was really cute and it feels great.”

Gabrielle Union as Gwen Stefani

When Gabrielle Union decided to dress up as Gwen Stefani, from her No Doubt days, she probably didn’t expect it to become such a controversial choice. While Gwen absolutely loved the tribute, not all of her fans were happy. Gwen not only commented on Gabrielle’s video with, “Obviously this made me soooooo happy!! Gx” but she also re-posted the video to her own Instagram. So what were her fans so upset about?

People felt that there was a double standard, as Gabrielle dressed as a white woman but if Gwen had dressed as a black woman, she would’ve been called racist. Clearly, these fans are confused. Nobody minds when people dress up as a specific person who happens to be of a different race, as long as they do not alter their skin color for the sake of the costume, which Gabrielle did not do.

Ariel Winter and Levi Meadon as Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock

Ariel Winter and her then-boyfriend, Levi Meadon dressed up as former couple Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock, for Halloween. Ariel captioned her photo by wishing her fans a happy Halloween and asking them what they were wearing and what they’d be doing for the holiday. So what did everyone think of the actress’s costume?

While everyone agreed that Ariel looked amazing, most people thought that she was dressed up as Britney Spears. To be fair, we can see the resemblance to the pop star, as well as the homage to Pamela. While neither Pamela nor Britney have commented on the costume, Pamela has shown support for Ariel in the past. When body-shamers attacked the former Modern Family star, Pamela encouraged Ariel to “stay strong” amongst other advice on how to deal with haters.

Hailey Bieber as Britney Spears

Hailey Bieber’s Britney Spears costume was clearly chosen out of admiration, as she wrote on her Instagram, “Happy Halloweekend the first concert I ever went to was the queen Britney Spears and I’ve been shook ever since.” She was probably, even more, shook when the pop star took notice.

Britney wrote about Hailey’s costume, saying, “She was me for Halloween… I think I won brownie points with my kids!!!! But seriously though… How freaking cool is that???” While both women looked gorgeous, can we talk about how gross it is that the costume is sexualizing underage schoolgirls?

Jennifer Lopez as Madonna

Jennifer Lopez shocked everyone when she dressed up as Madonna for Halloween in 2020. At the time, JLo was engaged to Alex Rodriguez, who is Madonna’s ex. Yes, these are the types of costume taboos that Hollywood A-listers have to deal with.

JLo assured her fans that dressing up as her fiance’s former girlfriend was a totally normal thing to do. “I mean, it was so long ago, so long ago. I don’t know. No, it wasn’t weird at all. I loved it.” Madonna has not commented on JLo’s costume, but we are curious who Alex thought made for a better version of the pop icon?

Adele as Dolly Parton

Adele dressed up as Dolly Parton for Halloween and it was clear that the singer was having the time of her life! Adele has been very open about her idolization of Dolly, because who doesn’t idolize the country superstar? The pop singer captioned a photo of her costume with, “The effortless queen of song, Dolly Parton! You were the hero of our night! A hero of my life. I’ll always love you.” So what did Dolly think of Adele’s intense admiration?

As always, Dolly’s response won America’s hearts. “I was knocked out! I was so flattered, I loved your outfit. I thought that it was great. I think I had an outfit just like that back in the day. In fact, I thought that was a picture of me back in the day. I was really touched by what you said.” She then went on to say that the two should make a song together. Fans’ hearts might just explode if that were to happen.

Kevin Hart as The Rock

Kevin Hart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are known to be very close friends. The two often roast each other, in the most loving manner, so it makes sense that Kevin saw Halloween as the perfect opportunity to make fun of his friend. He dressed up as The Rock from the ’90s, fanny pack and all.

Kevin captioned the photo, “This s**t makes me laugh. I killed it with my Halloween costume this year… The Rock had the nerve to get an attitude with me.” The Rock responded by threatening not to give Kevin a king-sized candy bar during trick-or-treating. He posted a photo of a small candy and wrote to Kevin, “Here’s what you get. It’s bite-sized. Tiny, mini, like you.” However good your bromance may be, it’s not Kevin and The Rock level of bromance!
