If Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them or Harry Potter and the Cursed Child just don’t quite cut it for you, look no further. There’s one Instagram account, Gryffindior, that’s taking our favorite witches and wizards and updating their wardrobes. But only with designer items from the world’s top fashion houses.
If money wasn’t a factor, perhaps we’d see the Harry Potter characters wearing these luxury items. From crop tops to mini skirts, the biggest haute couture labels clearly set up shop in Diagon Alley. Take a look at what happens when the Ministry of Fabric gets involved.
Professor Dumbledore Is No Stranger To a Mani-Pedi
We wouldn’t usually bat an eyelid at seeing this extraordinary outfit on Professor Albus Dumbledore. It looks pretty similar to what actor Richard Harris wore in the first two Harry Potter films when he was still playing the part of Albus. But we need to talk about those nails for a second.
Among all the drapery and exquisite detail on the Dior robe, we can’t help but notice the headmaster’s glorious manicure. His soft supple hands are accentuated by the reverse french manicure and match his berry-toned clothes underneath. If only the filmmakers had worked with Dior’s creative director for Dumbeldore’s wardrobe…
Bellatrix Lestrange Is Ready for Her Close Up
Bellatrix Lestrange looks like she’s in an edgy magazine editorial in this photo from a prison cell. She’s in Azkaban prison, but her ragged jail uniform has been replaced with a strapless body-con Yves Saint Laurent gown. But she could just as well be walking down a catwalk.
The tulle fringing on the chest compliments her back-combed hair and almost looks intentional. Not to mention the mish-mash of patterns and textures, which does a good job of representing her fractured mindset. It’s definitely the kind of fierce style that we would expect from a Death Eater.
Professor Snape Struts His Stuff In a Bolero Jacket
We love this side of Professor Severus Snape. Finally, in this (doctored) photo, he’s free to express himself through his secret passion. He’s always had a thing for haute couture, and now he’s finally ready to share that with his students. Introducing; Fashion Icon Severus Snape.
Wearing a Yves Saint Laurent look from the spring/summer collection of 2014, Snape dons a leopard print bolero jacket that sparkles in the light. His long hair really pulls the look together. But it’s hard to say whether Bernie approves in the background.
Hermione Granger Lets Out Her Inner Rockstar
Maybe it’s Hermione Granger’s exposure to the muggle-world that has given her such a fantastic sense of style. Wearing a heavily embroidered Dior jacket from the fall/winter collection of 2018, she’s rocking the androgynous look with some gold statement jewelry, yellow shades, and a blue Chanel purse. Studying is just going to have to take a backseat on this occasion.
Does anyone else think she looks a bit like Steven Tyler? Especially with her hair out and worn down in loose waves. The Harry Potter film series would be a far cry from J. K. Rowling’s original intentions, but we’d be keen to see what this version of the Muggle-born witch was like. Does the wizarding world have a Ministry of Fashion by chance?
Harry Potter Gives Us Subtle Symbolism
We’ve never seen Harry looking quite this stiff before in any of the films. He’s trying his hand at high fashion, but it’s giving us more Star Trek meets Dr. Evil from Austin Powers vibes. It’s definitely the most futuristic-looking outfit we’ve ever seen in the wizarding world.
But let’s give Harry the respect he deserves for going against the crowd with his fashion sense. He’s opted for a high-neck, discretely zipped jacket that features a large symbol across the front. Does anyone else think it reminds them of the Deathly Hallows symbol just a little bit? Specifically, the Resurrection Stone and the Cloak of Invisibility… no?
Luna Lovegood Adds Rustic Charm To Her Runway Look
There’s no doubt that Luna Lovegood would gravitate towards the most outlandish styles of the season. Which is why this bizarre cut-out dress suits her personality perfectly. It features strings of thread throughout, which almost looks as though she could have sewn them on herself. We could totally imagine her having made this unusual design.
The brightly colored loose threads accentuate her super-long blonde hair, and the mismatched nature of it all mirrors her scatterbrain character. And somehow, Luna still manages to make haute couture look witchy in the best possible way. But we doubt she’d be allowed to walk around the grounds of Hogwarts in such a revealing mini dress.
Draco Malfoy Makes An Edgy Entrance
Draco Lucius Malfoy was frightening enough in the final two Harry Potter movies. But this black and white ensemble just tips him over the edge. With his off-white blazer and skimpy leather trousers, Draco’s taking power dressing to a whole new level. Especially when he’s strutting his stuff like he’s center stage on the runway.
We would definitely run a mile if we saw him walking down the halls of Hogwarts School. Maybe the most jarring thing of all is that Draco has a sleeve and chest tattoo in this image. Either that or Lord Voldemort has updated the infamous “Dark Mark” tattoo that features a snake with a human skull. It’s only reserved for his Death Eaters, of which Draco was trying desperately to fit in with.
Cho Chang Wants All Eyes on Her
No wonder Harry fell head over heels for Quidditch Seeker Cho Chang. She makes a very convincing model in this two-toned gingham dress. It’s stitched together in a patchwork design, and the ruffles around her shoulders almost look like wings.
This is also exactly how we imagine Cho would want to dress on the weekends. It’s fun, fresh, and flirty, and perfect for wooing Harry or Cedric Diggory in. Plus, it’s one of the girlier styles we’ve seen from a fashion house, and we know she’d like that.
Professor McGonagall Reveals What’s Under Her Cloak
We always knew Professor Minerva McGonagall was a badass. Underneath that dark cloak, she’s wearing the latest hot fashions fresh off the runway. Her occupation as the professor of Transfiguration and the head of Gryffindor House is just a day job. She’s actually a hard-core activist outside of Hogwarts.
That’s why she’s wearing a top that says: “WE SHOULD ALL BE FEMINISTS.” But honestly, we didn’t need Minerva to confirm that. Of course she is – she’s one of the most accomplished witches in the wizarding world. And J. K. Rowling has even confirmed this in a book of short stories: “Minerva — always something of a feminist — announced that she would be keeping her own name upon marriage.”
Rubeus Hagrid Loves a Slogan T-Shirt
Rubeus Hagrid may be half-wizard, half-giant, but he looks positively tiny compared to his lady-crush Madame Olympe Maxime, the Headmistress of Beauxbatons Academy. Take a look at him trying to grab her attention. We can’t tell if he’s trying to prove he’s a feminist or show her his lean physique. Possibly, he’s trying to do both.
This outfit isn’t as unlikely for Hagrid as you might initially think. He may have a big and rugged beard, but he’s proven more than once that he likes more traditionally feminine clothes and accessories. Remember his pretty pink umbrella-wand, or when he wore a flowery apron? His gender non-conforming style totally defies the toxic masculinity in the wizarding world.
Dobby Is Transformed In Chanelf
We didn’t know that we needed fashionista-Dobby in our lives until seeing this. Just when you thought it wasn’t possible to love Dobby anymore, he rocks up wearing an outfit from Chanel’s spring/summer collection, head-to-toe. Something tells us that the real house-elf Dobby would jump at the opportunity to accessorize like this.
From the statement earrings to the chain logo belt, we can imagine that Karl Lagerfeld would approve of this ensemble. Dobby’s come a long way since Harry gave him one of his old socks, and he’s never looked better. He would easily outshine the other models on the catwalk, especially since he’s probably the only one who can hold his head up in such big earrings.
Hermione and Ron Give Us Their Best Model Poses
Move out of the way Beyonce and Jay Z, there’s a new power couple in town. Of course, they weren’t an item at this point in time. Hermione is wearing a highly reflective beige playsuit while Ron dons a tailored blazer, necktie, and bracelet. Tres chic.
We love seeing them in editorial model poses, and their faces make it all the more believable. You can’t convince us that Ron isn’t staring down the lens of a camera. Hermione on the other hand is working hard for the attention with a classic hands-on-hips, elbows-out stance.
Colin Creevey Learns How To Accessorize
Little Colin Creevey has taken a break from photography to be in front of the camera for a change. And boy does he own it. He’s wearing an embellished Dior vest from their spring/summer 2019 collection, and huge statement rings that spell out the initials of the brand.
It looks like he’s wearing the haute couture version of a knuckle duster, and wouldn’t want to get in his bad books. Fashion house Dior actually commented on this image on Instagram, writing: “#DiorSummer bling bling!” If they approve, you know Colin’s doing something right.
Parvati Patil Gives Us Goth Glam
The Patil sisters are no-nonsense kind of girls who know what they like. Which is why this gothic look suits Parvati Patil just perfectly. She’s swaddled herself in aubergine and floral prints that come up high on her neck and cinch at the waist. But the bold black lip is what takes center stage for this look.
Plus, the big shades tell everyone she’s just not in the mood today. Look at her staring us down – she doesn’t even care if she’s breaking the fourth wall. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix would have been a lot more interesting if supporting characters like Parvati went all out with their outfits.
Professor Dumbledore Loves a Bright Floral Print
Take a look at the legend himself, Professor Albus Dumbledore, in a floral short that features cartoon bee appliques. We wouldn’t expect anything less from the lemon candy-loving wizard. But the bumblebee detail is actually totally on-brand for the headmaster. “Dumbledore” just so happens to be the 18th-century word for a bumblebee.
J. K. Rowling spoke about it once herself: “’Dumbledore’ is an old English word meaning bumblebee. Because Albus Dumbledore is very fond of music, I always imagined him as sort of humming to himself a lot.” We love how perfectly this designer shirt fits with the professor’s identity.
Hermione Granger’s Modern Witchy Look
Hermione Granger’s been wearing the corseted look since way before Kim Kardashian caught on to it. Wearing an outfit from Dior’s fall/winter 2019 collection, the young witch styles a casual tee with accessories to add glamor. Even Crookshanks can’t take his eyes off of her.
The deep purple leather corset adds structure to the ensemble, but it does look hard to breathe in. We understand that sisterhood is global, but does it have to be quite so restrictive on the internal organs? Either way, we think this high fashion version of Hermione is right up her street.
Draco Lucius Malfoy In a Matador’s Chaquetilla
The difference in Draco Lucius Malfoy wearing these designer brands is that he’s one of the few people who could actually afford them. In this picture, he dons a highly embellished Yves Saint Laurent jacket from the fall/winter collection of 2016.
Featuring a floral design in primary and metallic tones, this version of Draco isn’t afraid to express his feminine side. And we love to see it. The scarf looks like it would feel scratchy against the skin, but he knows all too well that beauty is pain. He’s got to keep up the Malfoy image, after all.
Professor McGonagall In a Mini Skirt
Professor Minerva McGonagall proves you’re only as old as you feel in this classy Dior ensemble. Taken from their fall/winter 2019 collection, Minerva gives us ’40s vibes from the waist up and swinging ’60s vibes from the waist down. That really is a very short mini skirt she’s wearing.
One person commented on Instagram: “She only bought that dress so someone could take it off.” And we couldn’t agree more. There’s more to Professor McGonagall’s personal life than we know, and her experimental fashion sense is the closest we’re going to get to knowing about it.
Harry Potter and the Lost Shirt
For those of you who saw Daniel Radcliffe star in the 2007 West End play Equus, this won’t have been the first time you’ve seen the Chosen One strip off. On this occasion, Harry is wearing a jacket and purse from Christian Dior’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection… but not much else besides that.
If the outfit calls for a topless moment, then Harry’s totally down to rock the bare-skin look. The chunky jewelry and floral print handbag might not be to everyone’s taste, but clearly “Patronus Potter” isn’t one to shy away from a daring outfit. Let’s just hope he wasn’t too cold.
Neville Longbottom Keeps It Chic For Battle
Neville Longbottom totally transformed throughout the years at Hogwarts, not to mention how differently the actor Matthew Lewis looks today. But how great would the Battle of Hogwarts during the Second Wizarding War have been if Neville was allowed to dress however we wanted.
A Fair Isle sweater in red, cream, and cranberry tones is exactly what we would imagine Neville loves to wear during the winter. But it’s the black nail polish and beaded necklace that make this look for us. Did the Gryffindor wizard go through an emo phase that we don’t know about?
Parvati Patil Experiments With Cut-Out’s and Panelling
Parvati Patil is a whole lot more contemporary in this gown for the Yule Ball. She’s swapped out her brightly colored pink and orange Choli and Lehenga for a Christian Dior cut-out panel dress from the spring/summer 2017 collection. And she looks stunning in it.
Harry can hardly believe his eyes. People on Instagram certainly thought this look suited her more than her previous outfit. One commenter wrote: “She deserves it after that neon ill-fitting garbage they put the twins in.” We wouldn’t go that far, but we see their point.
Dobby Channels the Original Coco Chanel
We love to see Dobby wrapped up warm in a signature French fashion house look. He’s wearing a jacket and gloves from Chanel’s 2018 COCO NEIGE collection, and we think it suits him to a tee. The fleece inner lining really contrasts with his smooth, hairless head.
The Instagram account captioned this photo: “ALL DRESSED UP WITH NOWHERE TO GO.” But we don’t think Dobby needs a reason to put on his Sunday’s best. Whether he’s just picking up some milk or meeting up with Harry, he likes to be dripping in designer goods.
Professor Snape Takes Neckwear To the Next Level
Look how at home Professor Severus Snape looks in a Yves Saint Laurent spring/summer 2015 ensemble. Not only is he wearing his favorite color, but the scarf gives him the high-neck look that he always gravitates toward. But we have to admit, the striped t-shirt looks a bit out of place.
Gryffindior captioned this image: “J.K. Rowling once said, ‘you sometimes have to join forces with those you’d rather avoid’ therefore we’re bringing your favorite Slytherins back to where it all began, as guest Hogwarts fashion house: Yvesslythaurent.” Professor Snape would be perfect as the head of that house.
Hermione Granger and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamdress
Hermione Granger looks stunning in this rainbow dress from Dior’s spring/summer 2020 collection. It’s called the Multicolor Dioraura Sleeveless dress and totally puts us in mind of Joseph’s technicolor dreamcoat. But not all of Gryffindior’s Instagram followers thought it suited her as well as someone else.
One commenter wrote: “But imagine how good Luna would look in it.” And honestly, we think it does look more like something Luna would wear. But that doesn’t take away from how glorious Ms. Granger looks in the colorful design. The tiered ruffles along the hem are especially flattering.
Sirius Black Is Seriously Stylish
As Godfather to Harry Potter, Sirius Black was Harry’s only surviving family member until Bellatrix Lestrange struck him down with a Killing Curse. He was the heir of the House of Black and, suitably, is wearing black head-to-toe in this Dior get-up. It’s fresh off of the 2019 fall/winter runway.
Sirius always had “cool uncle” vibes and they’re still with him in this haute couture look. But it’s still definitely a departure from his usual velvet jackets and unbutton shirts. But as Sirius once said himself, “What’s life without a little risk?”
The Patel Sisters Celebrate Female Empowerment
The Patel sisters, Parvati and Padma, are the resident twins at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and they often dressed in matching clothes. Which is why we love to see them in matching Dior outfits from the fall/winter collection of 2019! They look totally adorable.
Wearing slogan T-shirts that say “SISTERHOOD IS GLOBAL” and “Sisterhood is Powerful,” they’re celebrating female empowerment through designer fashion. Not to mention we love the tattoos on Parvati’s wrists – it’s totally something we could imagine her having. Maybe it’s the Ravenclaw symbol?
Professor Dumbledore Flexes on the Ministry of Magic
Just when you thought Professor Dumbeldore couldn’t be any more badass, he rocks up to the Ministry of Magic in Dior’s pre-fall collection from 2020. He turned up early to Harry Potter’s Disciplinary hearing but had time to change into some luxury menswear beforehand.
Wearing beige and powder blue, it’s not something we’re used to seeing the headmaster wear. But now we understand that fanny packs were basically made for him. We knew Professor Dumbledore always had a secret passion for fashion.
Ron Weasley Undresses To Impress
Whoa, we didn’t expect Ron Weasley to have washboard abs. Wearing a nightwear set from Christian Dior’s spring/summer 2019 collection, he looks calm and composed before tucking into bed. But Gryffindior’s Instagram followers weren’t exactly feeling the same.
People commented on the picture saying things like, “My mind’s telling me no…” or “Oh hello Mister Weasley.” But one observant user pointed out “That torso is way too long!” They kind of have a point, but somehow, most people didn’t seem to care.
