In an interview with Marilyn Manson at Paper Magazine, the rocker poses for the camera alongside his father. Renowned photographer, Terry Richardson, snapped photos of the two family members that are doused in full-blown stage makeup. Manson’s father, Hugh, had on the same makeup his son uses in his performances. The outcome: Papa Manson is surprisingly scarier than his son.
Manson’s frightening bad-boy reputation suggests some sort of emo-upbringing involving a “nobody understands me” mentality. To our surprise, Manson’s father totally understands him! According to the article, Hugh is a fan of rock & roll. He’s supportive of the rockstar lifestyle and was the first one to put makeup on his son’s face. The singer speaks quite fondly of his father, the two have a great relationship.
At Paper Magazine’s cover shoot, Manson’s dad put on his son’s makeup. Manson reacted to the makeup saying “That’s a good Ghost of Christmas Future.” He continued; “When I see pictures of my dad, I’m like, He looks like me.” Apparently, the rockstar genes run strong on this family line. Manson described the first time he saw his father in makeup, and it was way before Manson started on the path to fame. “The first time I saw my dad in makeup was, ironically, the second concert I ever went to. He dressed as Gene Simmons and took me to the Kiss ‘Dynasty’ tour when I was 11. And people were asking my dad for his autograph.”
It’s great to know that the bad-boy’s dad got his back, and it’s clear that Hugh is proud of Marilyn.
