Will Smith’s musical gene is getting reactivated. His son, Jaden Smith, released an album with tracks hitting the top one hundred. Jaden’s success seems to have inspired his dad to get back to the studio. Looks like there’s going to be some father-son competition.
Today, Will Smith is mainly recognized for his acting career. The celebrity starred in classic films including “I Am Legend,” “Hitched,” and “Seven Pounds.” But before he mastered the big screen, Will Smith was quite the rapper. He’s won two Grammys, three American Music Awards, and sold 8 million copies of his first solo album.
In a recent interview, Will Smith admits he and his old hip-hop partner, DJ Jazzy Jeff, want to go back to rapping. “It [has] been a minute. I’ve been full in the actor’s mind, so me and Jeff start[ed] going out a little bit in the last six-to-eight months [and] we’ve been doing something.”
Apparently, the two have already been working on new tracks in the studio but are in need of some inspiration. “I just gotta find that lane; find that way back in,” he said. “It’s a part of my heart. I love it. I make records all the time. I got a ton of stuff that I make at the house. It’s just not stuff that I’m hyped about to be able to feel comfortable letting it into the world. I’m trying to find that inspiration, that thing that sparks me to get back [to music].”
Smith used to rap about parents being “wack” and unable to understand kids. Now his life is “flipped, turned upside down.” He’s a parent and husband. It will be interesting to see what he’ll be rapping about this time around. Perhaps Will’s whole family will get in on the track. Jaden will be coming in with a verse while Willow adds some vocals to the tune.
